Coia's Cafe. Duke Street, Glasgow
Let's go for Breakfast!
L and I rarely get the chance to both have a day off whilst the kids are at school. It's not really classed as a 'long lie' but it's still good to not have everyone running about at the same time. We'll just let the girls get themselves organised and I will drop them off just before 9am. #Chill
Prior to today I had already been to Coia's Cafe website to check out the menu and what's on offer. I even managed to book a table for two for 11am breakfast. The site is well thought out and has a decent amount of information available and (as is often a massive issue) they have up to date graphics and links in relation to up and coming events. Yeh. Not a lot I can fault it for. Good job lads!
The Cafe (feels more like a restaurant) is beautifully presented with a nice family atmosphere about it. It's really nice seeing a mix of age groups, kids in high chairs to pensioners ... and middle aged ; ) folk like ourselves all present. It's also nice seeing almost every table occupied and a healthy number of friendly staff always on the move. The staff were helpful and very friendly... although i did notice that every member of staff had a cool beard! Hipsters eh!? ; )
Coia's Cafe is situated just outside Glasgow City Centre (Duke Street) and is easily accessible via public transport or car.
On to the food! : )
Before I start - you can view the breakfast menu here.
I opt for Steak n' Eggs and L chooses the classic ... Eggs Benedict.
The Steak n' Eggs; The breakfast of cowboys. 4oz steak served with a choice of 2 eggs. Steak medium rare and two, perfectly poached eggs. Perfectly cooked and lovely in it's simplicity. I'd have liked a tad more meat ... or even a bit of toast for my second egg ... but it was beautiful nonetheless. £9.95
The Eggs Benedict; 2 poached eggs with bacon served on muffins and smothered in delicious Béarnaise sauce. A breakfast delight. For those who are asking 'what is a Béarnaise sauce?' it is a sauce made of clarified butter, emulsified in egg yolks, white wine vinegar and flavoured with herbs. Obviously there are variation of this bit needless to say it is a rich and supper tasty accompaniment for eggs, bacon and a muffin. Much like the steak, it's not the kind of thing you would 'throw together' on your average Saturday morning ... this feels like a wee treat. The eggs are, once again, perfectly poached and the dish looks amazing also. £10.45
We had two lovely cups of coffee with our breakfast bring our total to just under £30.
The biggest issue (not an issue) for us was finding a place to park. All in all a great wee morning out.
I would thoroughly recommend giving Coia's Cafe a visit ... although I would suggest calling / booking ahead as, even on a Thursday morning, it was pretty busy.
